Richard N, Downey, Sr., Celebration of Life February 8

Richard N. Downey, Sr. passed away on Monday, Jan. 26th, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. He died peacefully at home, after a short illness, with his son Richard, daughter-in-law Wendy and his brother Ray.

He was born on June 24,1938, in Dravosburg, Pa., to Charles Franklin and Helen Mae Downey.

He came to Indiana in 1961 and worked at Midwest Steel Div. for 32 years, retiring in 1994.

Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers Charles and William, sister Ellen Marie Stroud, brother-in-law Donald (Duck) Fite. Also preceding him in death are two wives, Sarah Gaynell Downey (Fuller), Johnnie Mae Downey (Phegley), four children, daughters, Mary Helen McCauley, Judith Lynn David, sons David Allen and Charles Franklin.

He is survived by his son Richard Jr. (Wendy) and brothers James (Karen), Ray (Jeanne), Darrold (Iris), and sister Frances Jean Fite. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friend Linda Kay Downey.

Mort was a good man who enjoyed music, golf, poker, making wine and pickles, playing horseshoes and beanbags and hoisting a jug now and then. He will be sadly missed by his numerous family and friends.

Burial will be private with immediate family at Chesterton Cemetery.

A celebration of Mort's life will be held at the VFW 1290 Wagner Rd., Porter, Ind., at 2:00 p.m., on February 8, 2015. www.whitelovefuneralhome.com.
