Rhonda Wysong Helt dies at age 55

Rhonda Wysong Helt, 55, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, died on June 6, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born on June 25, 1959 in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Walton and June (Ayers) Wysong.

After her birth-mother’s untimely death at a young age, Rhonda was raised by her father (Walton) and Joanne (Lenhart) Wysong.

Rhonda grew up in Chesterton, Indiana, where she worked at The Port Drive-In Restaurant, attended Liberty Bible Church, and graduated from Chesterton High School in 1977. Rhonda attended Taylor University in Indiana and was a 1983 graduate of Methodist School of Nursing in Iowa. Rhonda served her community as a registered nurse.

On June 16, 1984, Rhonda married Darrell Helt of Des Moines. She took delight in being a wife and mother. Rhonda's essence was her passion for compassion, which she demonstrated in the loving ways she tried to alleviate suffering, pain, and adversity in the lives of others. No stranger to difficulty, Rhonda valiantly engaged a thirteen-year personal battle against cancer.

Rhonda was a member of the Highland Park Church of the Nazarene in Des Moines. She was an avid walker and volunteered with various community outreaches.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, Darrell Helt; daughter, Darla Helt; son, Ryan Helt; siblings, Jennifer Vance, Nan Wysong, Susan Ayers, Deb Wysong, and Thom Vincent; brothers-in-law, Lowell Helt and Dennis Helt; nieces and nephews, Jonathan Blake, Evan Blake, Chloe Moyer, Jamie Moyer, Timothy Vance, Margaret Vance, Brynn Wysong, and Hannah Thomas; and Joanne Wysong.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walton Wysong and her mother, June Ayers Wysong.

A private service was held in Iowa. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Make-A-Wish America, 4742 N 24th Street, #400, Phoenix, AZ, 85016-4862.
