Richard “Dick” Nilson, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Monday, December 21st, 2015, at home in Hayward, WI.

He was born October 1st, 1936, in Chicago, IL to Harold and Linnea (nee Anderson) Nilson.

He married Carolyn Kaufman on June 16th, 1962, in Chesterton, IN.

Richard proudly and honorably served his country as a Medic in the United States Army. As an educator, he also served as a teacher and principal for schools in Chesterton, IN, Ripon and Neenah, WI, as well as the Hayward School District. He enjoyed playing blackjack, traveling, collecting and restoring old cars, and loved spending quality time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his children, Christine (Anthony) Garris of Triangle, VA, Eric (Elizabeth) Nilson of Hayward, Karen Nilson of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Lara (Michael) Glick of Reedsburg, WI; his grandchildren, Eva and Ethan Nilson and Gunnar and Anna Glick; sister, Diana Harwood of Springbrook, WI; brother, Jack Nilson of Chesterton, IN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family and friends.
