John Norris, age
64, of Dune Acres, IN, passed away Monday, March 30, 2015.
He was born in
Denver, CO, on August 27, 1950, to Van and Joyce (Bishop) Norris.
John is survived by
his wife, Bette Norris of Dune Acres; children, Adam (wife, Mae) Norris of
Arcadia, CA, Abby (husband, Kortney) Norris Hall of Harrogate, England, and
Ian Norris of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Emerson and Everett Hall and Luke
Norris; brothers, Brian (wife, Lauren) Norris of Westville, IN, and Chris
(wife, Sharon) Norris of Surprise, AZ; sister, Patricia (husband, Steve)
Jahns of Lawrenceville, GA; niece, Aubree (husband, Greg) Slavik of
Southampton, England, and nephew, Brett Norris of Greenwood, IN. He was
preceded in death by his parents.
John retired from
Duneland Schools in 2012. He taught at Westchester Middle School, now
Chesterton Middle School for 42 years. Next to his family his love of
teaching was paramount in his life. He was known for his teaching of gifted
and talented students and won many awards during his career. He was
recognized many times by students of the 5% Club at Chesterton High School.
He also coached tennis and swimming at CHS. He was actively involved with
Montage, an after school program for GT students. John also served as a
negotiator for many teacher contracts.
John was active in
his town and had served on the Dune Acres Town Council, Plan Commission and
the Board of Zoning Appeals.
will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517
Broadway, Chesterton, IN, from 5:00 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday,
April 8, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. with Memorial Service beginning at 4 p.m.
at the funeral home.
