Memorial service Wednesday for Charles 'Charlie' H. Van Cleef

Charles ‘Charlie’ H. Van Cleef passed away Friday morning, December 18, 2015, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, in Chicago, Ill., due to medical complications, at the age of 79.

He was born in Northwest Indiana, April 5, 1936. Charlie is survived by his wife, Joanne Van Cleef, brother William Van Cleef and sister Charlene Corrodo, sons Charles Dale (Bonnie) Van Cleef and Terry Van Cleef, and daughter Cheryl (Freddy) Pevar, two step-children, Holly Baum and David Baum; grandchildren Tyson Hinkley, Charles Dale Van Cleef, Ryan Van Cleef, Christen Ball, and Tiana Shelton, and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Van Cleef, his sisters Vivian Kastendieck and Sylvia Kenney, brother Bob Rickert and grandson Eric Van Cleef.

Charlie bowled for several years with friends and enjoyed yard work, fishing, writing letters to the Voice of the People column and was a Bears fan. He retired from NIPSCO after 35 years as a gas service man. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He always helped neighbors, friends and family if he could. He attended Liberty Bible Church. He will be missed by his dogs Rudy and Murphy and his cat Ginger.

He chose to donate his body to Indiana University for medical education.

A Memorial Service for Charlie will be held Wednesday, December 30, at 11 a.m., at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Rd., (Old State Rd. 49) in Chesterton, IN.
