Memorial Service Thursday for Mary C Rapacik 97

Mary C. Rapacik, age 97 of Chesterton, formerly of Johnstown, PA, passed away on August 31, 2015, at Addison Pointe Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on May 23, 1918, in Beyer, PA, to John Vincent and Louise (Kurowski) Zaczyk, both of whom preceded her in death.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, USAF SM/SGT Stanley P. Rapacik, her brothers Stanley, Frank, and Eugene Zaczyk, her sisters Sally Poad, Violet Bigan, Rose Topick, Veronica Zaczyk, and Bertha Zolocsik.

She is survived by her siblings: George Zaczyk of Newton Falls, OH, Edward Zaczyk of Sagamore, PA, and Sister Elizabeth of the Trinity of the Carmelite Monastery of Loretto, PA. Also survived by her children: Patricia Uberti (widow of J. Richard Uberti, Phd.) of Paoli, PA, Frances (Regis Hess) of Chesterton, IN, Joanne Bernhard (Col. Craig Bernhard, USAF Retired) of Herndon, VA, and Sally Simmer (Lt. Col. Jerome Simmer USAF Retired) of Mead, WA. Six grandchildren: Christie A. (John) Silvestri, Justin (Heather) Uberti, Jay (Jody) Simmer, Oliver Uberti, Lauren (Ray) Decker, and Jennine (Tim) Robinson, 14 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan, Matilda and Joseph Silvestri, Gavin, Kalie, and Alina Uberti, Jacy, Jake, Jessie and Jayne Simmer, Baby Ray Decker, Grace and Ethan Robinson.

Mary was formerly a member of Visitation BVM Church in Johnstown, and was most recently a member of St. Patrick Church in Chesterton. She was a member of the Rosary Society, the Air Force Widow's Society, Our Lady Star of the Sea, and made rosaries for the Knotted Cord of Love Rosary Mission. She was a sales clerk at the Sagamore Restaurant, a waitress at the Moore Hotel, and waitress/clerk at the Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown (retired at the age of 77).

The funeral and interment was at St. Bernard Church and Cemetery in Indiana, Pa. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N.
