Maureen Ellen Alexander passed away at age 64

Maureen Ellen Alexander (nee Pallone), age 64, passed away August 3, 2015 in St. Vincentís Hospital, Indianapolis, IN, after a valiant six-year battle with cancer.

She was born July 31, 1951 in Hammond, IN, to John and Elsie (Kish) Pallone, lived in Ross (Calumet Twp.) until the age of six and then moved with her family to Porter County where she graduated from Jackson Twp. School in 1969.

She attended Indiana University NW in Glen Park for two years before receiving her degree in 1973 from the Bloomington campus.

Maureen worked for 20 years for the Indiana Department of Employment Security, starting at the LaPorte division and later transferring to the Indianapolis location, retiring in May of this year. It was while working at that agency that she met Jerry D. Alexander, whom she married on Feb. 12, 1977, in the Valparaiso University Chapel.

Along with her husband, she is survived by a son, Sean Alexander of Avon, IN; daughter Megan (Scott) Fites, son-in-law and grandson Peter of Madison, Wisconsin; sisters Bonnie Pallone, of Valparaiso; Kathie (late Bill) York of Westville; nephews Steve York, Westville, and Tim York, Chesterton; grandnephews Chris and David York and grandniece Lily York. Also surviving are aunt and uncle Sylvia and Larry Tracy, uncle and aunt Elmer and Adele Kish, and many loving cousins and devoted friends.

Services were held at the Conkle Funeral Home, Reverend Ted Stephenson officiating, on August 7, in Avon, Indiana, where Maureen and Jerry lived and raised their family for 38 years. She lies at rest in Brownsburg Cemetery, Brownsburg, Indiana.
