James Larry Phillips dies at age 67

James Larry Phillips, age 67, of Empire, Alabama passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015.

He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart. He was a member of Maryland Masonic Lodge #783 in Sipsey; a 32nd degree member of the Shrine; and a member of the Scottish Rite.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at New Horizon Memorial Chapel. He was cremated following services.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mardie Phillips; brothers, Gayle and Roger Dale Phillips; sister, Diane Phillips Arnold; nephews, Joshua Phillips and Joshua Charles Phillips; and niece, Rachel Phillips.

Survivors include his daughters, Michelle Phillips Jackson and Mandie Mae Becker of Empire; son, Justin Bailey of Empire; grandchildren Colton Parker and Serenity “Booger Butt” Becker; sisters, Georgia Soliday (Jerry) of Wanatha, IN, Susan Phillips Marton of Arlington, TX and Ginnie Phillips Chiaro of Wanatha, IN; brother, Randy Phillips (Debbie) of Chesterton, IN; uncles, Lecil and Dick Ballenger; aunts, Doris Butler, Hazel Stephens, Peggy Mauldin and Mary Sue Barton; best friend, David Cranford (Kristie); lifelong friend, Ron Tolbert (Terri); several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
