Edgar J. Lewandowski, Coach “Lew”, 74, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015.

He was born May 19, 1940, in North Judson to Joseph and Mabel (Levendoski) Lewandowski.

He graduated from North Judson High School in 1959, Valparaiso University in 1963, and received his Master’s degree in Education from Ball State University. “Coach Lew” taught at Chesterton High School for 30 years retiring in 1995, he had coached football, basketball and wrestling for most of those years. Ed was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Duneland Resale Shop in Chesterton. During his leisure time Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting, particularly with anxious and well trained dogs, or watching a football game in the comfort of his home.

On May 28, 1966 he married Phyllis Dale who survives along with their sons, Mike Lewandowski of Valparaiso, Joe (Rebecca) Lewandowski of Wauconda, IL, sister, Kathy (Vern) Barnett of Monticello, IN, and two grandchildren, Jack and Cami Lewandowski. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-brothers, Richard and Rollie Nielsen.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 3-7 p.m., at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 234 W. Division Rd., Valparaiso, with Rev. William Foy officiating, with burial to follow.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes Adult Day Care Center or the Duneland Resale Shop.
