Darrel Hoover, Sr., age 83 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on February 20, 2015.

He was born on June 3, 1931, in Chesterton to Theodore and Josephine (Zugbaum) Hoover.

Darrel is survived by his children, Kathy (Milo Ihnat) Rains, Darrel L. (Gail) Hoover Jr., and Rhonda (Robert) Wilkie; sisters, Lorna Darling and Bonnie Lobsiger; grandchildren, Darrel L. (Amy) Hoover III, Sarah A. (Jeremy) Snowdin, Jennifer (Dan) Middlebrooks, Nicole Rains, Joanna Wilkie, Eric Hoover, Brent Rains, Rebecca Wilkie and Robert Wilkie; 10 great-grandchildren; and former wife and friend, Juanita Dickerson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Hoover and Josephine Darling; his wife, Virginia Hoover; and brother-in-law, Robert Lobsiger.

Darrel served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator for NIPSCO for 35+ years, and former Commander of American Legion Post #170, in Chesterton, from 1994 to 1998. He was most recently a member of American Legion Post #260 in Portage, and loved fishing, gardening and yard work. He was proud to be business partners in ‘Hair Master’ with Sarah.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304, with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015, from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with American Legion service at 6:30 p.m. the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be left at
