Valentine “Val” F. Ryba, age 86, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Sunday,
February 10, 2013.
He was born July 29, 1926 in Otis, Ind., to Walter and Regina Ryba, both of
whom preceded him in death.
On January 20, 1951, in Otis, Ind., he married Shirley Celebucki, who
survives of Chesterton.
He is also survived by his son, Ken Ryba of Chesterton; granddaughter
Melissa (Dennis) Reiser, of Michigan City, Ind.; great-grandchildren
Brittany (Jordan) Torres, Mariah Mayfield and Kylee Mayfield, all of
Michigan City, Ind., and great-great-grandchildren; Leila and Noah Torres.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Mark and Michael and seven
brothers and four sisters.
Val was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Otis, Ind., and of the St. Joseph
Young Men’s Society of Michigan City, Ind. He was a WWII veteran and
lifelong member and past commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter
23. He was also a lifelong member of the VFW Post 2536 and Skwiat Post 451.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.,
at St. Mary’s Church, 101 N Church Street, Otis, Ind., 46391. Interment is
to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Otis, Ind.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of
service at 11:00 a.m.
