SFC Jacob Daniel Wellman services Saturday

SFC Jacob Daniel Wellman, age 30 of Columbus, Georgia, formerly of Liberty Township, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013.

He was born on March 20, 1982 in Valparaiso, Ind. to Scott V. and Laurie L. Bachman Wellman, both of whom survive in Liberty Township.

On April 14, 2007, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he married Christina Mendoza Wellman, who survives in Berwyn, Ill.

Also surviving are his children Karleigh Shae, Enza Annalise and Braxton Noah Vaugh, all at home; a brother Daniel Wellman of Phoenix, Ariz., grandparents Carolyn Burnett of Tabares, Fla., Ivan Wellman of Coldwater, Mich., and Dorothy Bachman of Chesterton.

Jake is also survived by his parents-in-law, Antonia “Toni” and Hugo Mendoza of Berwyn, Ill., a brother-in-law David Mendoza of Berwyn, Ill., and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jake was a 2000 graduate of Chesterton High School, and loved sports, especially rooting for the Bears and Cubs. He was with Troop B, 5th Squadron, 15th Calvary Regiment, 194th Armored Company, Fort Benning, Georgia. Jake enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking and also loved riding quads, dirt bikes and motor cross. He was also a country music fan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 15, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton.

Memorials may be given to Jake’s children for their education fund.
