Ronald Owen Martinson, age 80, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away
peacefully on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Porter Regional Hospital in
He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Feb. 18, 1932, to George and Edith (Charlson)
Martinson, both of whom preceded him in death.
On August 22, 1953, he married Joanne (Walk) who survives in Chesterton.
He leaves his wife of 59 years; his son, Greg (Bridget) Martinson of
Chesterton; daughter, Gretchen (Tom) Anderson of Gurnee, Ill.; grandchildren
Justin and Austin Martinson, Rachel and Janelle Winter, Sara and Logan
Anderson; brother, Denny (Susan) Martinson of Michigan City, Ind.;
brother-in-law Robert (Carol) Walk of Indianapolis, Ind.; nieces and
nephews, Sara Haywood, Brent and Todd Martinson, Jeff Walk and Janet Bell.
Ron graduated from Chesterton High School in 1950 and was a U.S. Navy
veteran in the Korean War. In 1956, he and his father opened Martinson
Custom Cabinetry. In 1985, his son Greg joined in the family business which
is currently in operation. Ron loved being creative with wood and building
custom projects. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting friends at the
local coffee shops, going to auctions and was always involved with projects.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and
will be dearly missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, at
Augsburg Lutheran Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Rd., Porter, Ind., with
Pastor Erik Bernth officiating.
A short visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service in the
church Narthex. Burial will follow at the Chesterton Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 18, from 4-8 p.m. at
White-Love Funeral Home, in Chesterton, at 525 S. 2nd St.
