Lucille Marion Paulson passed away at Horton VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, Ind., on January 13, 2013, at the age of 93.

She was born October 8, 1919 in Gary, Ind., the daughter of Herbert and Mary (Nelson) Brier, both of whom preceded her in death.

On October 2, 1948, at Holy Angels Church in Gary, Ind., she married Robert J. Paulson, who preceded her in death on April 10, 2004.

Lucille is survived by her son Peter (Dale) Paulson, daughter Mary Paulson, and daughter-in-law Jan Paulson, all of Chesterton, Ind., four grandchildren, Matthew, Zachary and Julie Paulson (Derrick Bretz), all of Chesterton, and Katie Paulson, of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Claire Brier, of Valparaiso, Ind., and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert A Paulson, and three brothers, John Brier, Herbert Brier and Thomas Allen Brier.

Lucille was a graduate of Horace Mann High School Class of 1937. Along with her husband Bob, she helped found several Chesterton businesses, including Bob Paulson Service, Paulson Oil Company, Paulson’s B-K Root Beer Drive-In, Broadway Wash Hut and Broadway Liquors. She was a founding member of Delta Theta Tau (Zeta Sigma Chapter), helped serve as an assistant Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Leader, and volunteered at the Duneland Resale Shop.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Chesterton and had belonged to the Rosary Society. She volunteered in a number of capacities while her children attended St. Patrick School. In later years, she helped serve at St. Patrick Church funeral luncheons.

Lucille was beloved by her children and daughters-in-law and grandchildren and will be dearly missed. She had a devout faith and was a selfless woman, caring more about the well-being of her family and others than she did for herself. She was a strong-minded woman with a kind heart for everyone.

A Mass of Christian Burial, with Rev James Meade officiating, will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, at St. Patrick Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd, Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
