Dorothy Mae Lenburg service Wednesday

Dorothy Mae Lenburg (nee Lackman) of Portage, Ind., passed away January 4, 2013 in Portage.

Dorothy was born in Garyton (now Portage), Ind., on November 13, 1926 to Alfred B. and Ella M. (Williams) Lackman.

She married Harold E. Lenburg on July 11, 1945, who survives.

She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Elmer (Dorothy A.) Lenburg Jr. and sister-in-law, Irma (Bernard) Michaels.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Louis Lackman.

Dorothy graduated from Crisman High School (now known as Portage High School) in 1944 and also attended and graduated from Gary Business College. She worked briefly for the U.S. Navy Department while Harold was with the U.S. Navy, and attended college. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Portage. She was also a member of various Porter County Republican Clubs and a supporter of the Republican Congressional Committee, Senatorial Committee, Republican National Committee and Porter County Republican Committee.

Dorothy served as Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for Porter County government, Clerk of the Circuit Court and Superior Court, Treasurer of Porter County and Auditor of Porter County, retiring on December 31, 1986.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 6540 Central Ave., Portage, Ind.

Visitation will precede services at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be at McCool Cemetery in Portage, Ind.

Memorials for Dorothy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County.
