Thad “Ted” F. Jacobs Sr., 91, died July 3, 2013 in Indianapolis, Ind.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 18, 1921, to Edward and Frances Jacobs.

Ted was married to Marie Krohn Jacobs for 71 years. She survives him.

Other survivors include daughter, Marie Elena Jacobs; son, Thad F. Jacobs Jr. (Janice); grandson, Thad “Ted” Jacobs III (Shari); and great-granddaughters, Rachael and Kara Jacobs. A brother, Gene Jacobs, preceded him in death.

Ted proudly served his county in the 75th Army Corp. Engineer Division during WWII. When he returned, he was employed by PEC preparing for the World’s Fair in New York City. He worked many years at U.S. Steel and Eichleay Corporation in the Northwest Region, retiring in 1986. He then worked for Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore in Chesterton, Ind. He and his wife moved to Indianapolis in 2006. Ted was a member of the American Legion, the Optimist Club, the VFW, the Knights of Columbus, the Moose Lodge, and the Lions Club while in Chesterton. He was an avid baseball fan, always keeping up with the White Sox. He loved being outdoors, having spent many years building homes in Northwest Indiana and working in his yard. Some of his favorite things to do were to decorate his whole yard for Christmas, play golf with his family, participate in his bowling league, and burn chicken while barbecuing on his back porch.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013, at 11 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating.

Friends may call on the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
