Services set for Charles Davis

Former Chesterton resident Charles Robert “Bob” Davis, 87, of Bloomfield, N.M. died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital.

He was born Jan. 14, 1927, in Shelby County, Ind., the son of Charles Arnold and Dorothy Means Arnold. Shortly after birth he came to know James and Rose Davis as his adoptive parents.

He is survived by son James A. Davis and wife Beverly of Albuquerque, N.M.; daughter Sharon McKeen and husband Dr. Charles McKeen of Bloomington; grandchildren Charles E. McKeen and wife Kathryn, Erin Johnston and husband Andrew, Regan Redstone and husband Josh, Laura Riddle and husband Mark, and Kerry Fuentes and husband Jose; seven great grandchildren; sister Ruby Moon Vandeveer; and brother-in-law Donald Nelson.

He was preceded in death by both his biological parents and adoptive parents, brothers Jack Arnold and Jerry Davis, and sisters Sharon K. Arnold and Carol Sue Rogers Bobella.

Bob, as he was widely known to family and friends, spent his professional career as a carpenter, residential building contractor, and owner along with his wife, Deldora, of a mobile home park in New Mexico. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy at the conclusion of World War II. He was always known as an avid gardner, outdoorsman, conversationalist, and a self-educated individual.

Graveside services will be held later this week in Farmington, N.M., where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Deldora, who preceded him in death in 2013.
