Service Tuesday for Lloyde Dees age 95

Former Chesterton area resident and Yost School Principal Lloyde Dees, age 95, of Urbana, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Lloyde was born on November 16, 1918, the son of Jesse and Frances (Sherwood) Dees.

He was married to Margaret (Sloan) Dees until her passing in April of 1974.

Surviving are his two sons Lloyde (Katherine Hoffmann) Dees of Milwaukee, Wis.; and Kenneth (Gayle) Dees of Forsyth, Ill.; sister Frances Sherwood Foster of Champaign, Ill.; brother David Dees of Bloomington, Ill.; grandchildren Dorian Dees, Ian (Kyle) Dees, Lauren Dees and David (Melissa) Epps; great-grandchildren Amara Anderson, Greg Epps and Aaron Epps.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Urbana and was a parish visitor for the church. Lloyde served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Illinois Weslyan before going to the University of Illinois for his Master’s in Education. He retired as an elementary school teacher in Bensonville Ill. He was also a former principal at Yost Elementary School, Porter, Ind.

A memorial service to celebrate Lloyde’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Urbana. Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel Funeral Home, Decatur, Ill., is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials can be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Urbana.
