Saturday service for Edgar Skibbie

Edgar J. Skibbie, age 94, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013.

He was born on February 4, 1919 in Chicago, Ill., to Martin J. and Mary Skibbie.

On Oct. 5, 1946 he married Blanche E. Witte, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughters, Carole Ann (Harry) Vallangeon, Mary Jane (Kenneth) Hoesman and Lynne Marie Skibbie all of Chesterton, IN; sister, Charlotte Phillips of Chesterton, IN; grandchildren, Brian Hoesman, Jennifer (Todd) Cole and Christopher Vallangeon; great grandchildren, Riley, Aidan and Chloe Cole and granddog, Cody.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche and brother, Richard M. Skibbie.

Edgar was very proud of his service in the Military. He served from May of 1942 until October of 1945. During his service he was in charge of mechanics on bombers. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant of the 820th Air Engineer Squadron European Theater Operations. He received two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medals and Distinguished Unit Citations. Edgar worked as a Shift Production Superintendent for Union Carbide Corp. and retired in 1977.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. directly at the church. Interment will take place at Chesterton Cemetery.
