Roy Edwin Peterson, age 91, died November 14, 2013 in LaPorte, Ind.

He was born December 25, 1921 in Porter, Ind., to Frank and Amanda Peterson.

He married Corrine Peterson, also of Chesterton, and they recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his loving wife Corrine, three daughters; Ryne Peterson Gust of Chesterton, Lisa (David) Sellers of Amherst, Ohio, and Mandi (John) Cornett of LaPorte; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Kluth, sister-in-law, Millie Peterson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings; Helen Wahl, Robert Peterson, Fran Morrison, Paul Peterson, Grace Dolk, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh Sellers.

A lifelong resident of Chesterton, he graduated from CHS in 1939. He served as Chief Petty Officer in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.

As owner and operator of Roy Peterson Builders, he was widely known in the community for his custom built homes, often times doing business on a handshake alone. He had a strong love of music and spent many years singing in a barber shop chorus in Michigan City. Roy, as a follower of Jesus Christ, was a member of Liberty Bible Church where he served as a board member, sang in the church choir and volunteered often in his later years at the church office.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 17th from 3-7 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, (219) 926-1309.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 18, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Bible Church, 824 North Calumet Ave., Chesterton, with burial following at Chesterton Cemetery.

Donations In memory of Roy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Liberty Bible Church missionary fund.
