Robert Ehrick services Saturday

Robert Ehrick, age 83, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away on October 15, 2013 in Chesterton.

Ehrick was born in LaPorte, Ind., on November 1, 1929 to Leo and Martha (Pliska) Ehrick.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hartz) Ehrick; daughter, Linda (Peter) Ferrari of Culver, Ind.; daughter-in-law, LuAnn Jones of Michigan City, Ind., and grandchildren, Peter and Laura Ferrari. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Donald Robert Ehrick.

Ehrick served in the U.S. Army. He was assigned as Information & Education Officer for the 96th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. During his time in the service, his fiancé Barbara, flew to Anchorage from Chicago and they were married on October 17, 1953 at Fort Richardson Army Base.

Ehrick started teaching in 1954. He taught in Wheatfield and Morroco prior to coming to Chesterton. He taught for Duneland schools for 33 years. In 1972 he became Assistant Principal at Chesterton High School. He remained there until his retirement in 1995. During his career, Ehrick also coached football for many years and was a Driverís Education Instructor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating. Burial will take place at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Wake Service will be held at 7:30 pm, at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
