Rita M. Bishop services Tuesday

Rita M. Bishop, age 87 of Porter, Ind., passed away Monday, January 20, 2014, in Valparaiso, Ind.

She was born April 16, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to John A. and Bertha E. (Gospodarek) Brzycki.

On September 30, 1967, she married Robert “Whistle” Bishop in Chesterton, Ind.

She is survived by her son, Eugene J. (Judith Zick) Chemma of Porter, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Mary Eileen (Bishop) Coleman and Florence (Brzycki) Knoff; grandchildren, Kristin (Chase) Saylor and Scott E. Chemma and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and brothers, Harry and Norbert Brzycki.

Rita moved from Chicago, Ill., to Indiana in 1951. She was Assistant Cashier at Porter Bank and retired in 1986. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She was also a member of American Legion Post 170 Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Porter Post 2511 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Patrick Senior Citizen Club and a former member of Women of the Moose Chesterton Lodge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. and American Legion Auxiliary and VFW services beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Drive, Valparaiso, IN, 46383.
