Leona S. Wood (nee Beam), age 94, of Porter, Ind., passed away Thursday, May
She was born January 16, 1919, to Joseph and Hannah Beam, both of whom
preceded her in death.
She is survived by her four children; Maxine (Pete) Adams of Murfreesboro,
Tenn., Joseph (Marcia) Wood of Porter, Ind., Kay (Robert) Miller of San
Antonio, Texas and Jack (Tanya) Wood of New Port Richey, Fla.; twenty
grandchildren: JoAnn (Terry) Hartsell, Steve (Nancy) Adams, Tim (Lisa)
Adams, Abe Adams, Hannah (Ron) Koehler, Michael Wood, Lori (Frank) Pierce,
Brian (Stephanie) Wood, Garrett (Cindy) Wood, Amber (Brittney King) Wood,
Tiffany (Tony) Migliorini, David and Michael Miller, Darlene (Steve)
Jimenez, Thomas (Wanda) Miller, Daniel (Dena) Miller, Van (Jeannie) Jones,
Samantha (Russell) Murray, Anthony Wood and Amanda (James) Thompson;
daughter-in-law, Raylene Wood; numerous great-grandchildren; great
great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wood was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Wood who married
Leona in Chesterton, Ind., on December 24, 1938; son, William Wood;
grandson, Peter Adams; great-grandson, Aiden Wood; step-grandson, Eddie
Allen; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wood; and two sisters: Emily Bushore and
Mrs. Wood was a member of the E.U.B. Church (United Methodist) of Porter,
Ind., and was a Senior Girl Scout Leader and Red Mill Camp Director in
LaPorte, Ind. Leona and husband Elmer were the former owners of Wood’s
Restaurant in Portage, Ind.
A committal service will be held Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11:30 a.m.
directly at Graceland Cemetery Chapel, 1505 Morthland Dr., Valparaiso, Ind.,
46383, with Pastor G. Thomas Jones officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Leona’s memory to
the Porter Methodist Church or the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and
