John A. Butz services Saturday

John Arlan Butz, Sr., “Pops,” age 83 of Chesterton, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in Chesterton.

He was born on July 15, 1931 in Fountain Hill, PA, to LaRoy and Cora Nice-Butz, both of whom preceded him in death.

Pops is survived by his children: John Arlan (MaryJane) Butz Jr. of Porter, James Allan (Susan) Butz of Stroudsburg, PA and Joyce Eileen (Paul) Wascher of West Bloomfield, MI. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Jennifer (Philip), P.J., John L., Molly, Emily (James), William and Felicity.

Pops was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean, daughter, Jean Arlaine Butz and his grandson, James Butz.

Pops was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was also a Lehigh University graduate. He worked as a Supervisor at Bethlehem Steel for forty-two years. He proudly served as Corporal in the United States Army. His life was his family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W 1100 N, with Pastor Erik Grayvold officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. The service will not only be for Pops, but also for his daughter, Jean Arlaine Butz, who passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014. Pops will be buried in Bethlehem, PA.

Memorial donations may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
