James Yager dies at age 75

James J. Yager, age 75 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, after a courageous battle against Parkinsonís disease, with his loving family at his side.

He was born June 6, 1939, the son of Pete and Mary (Matis) Yager.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan (Williams).

Also surviving are his children, Michael (Robin) of Portage, Ind., Michelle (fiancé Mike Ham) of Valparaiso and Jill Yager of Valparaiso; grandchildren Andrew, Maliah, Ella and Jake.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Irene (late Larry) Carty and brother-in-law Gary (Judy) Williams and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Lillian (late Jerry) Patrick.

Jim was born and raised in Whiting, graduating from Whiting High School, class of 1957, residing the last 18 years in Porter County.

He worked at Unilever for 38 years as a machinist before retiring in 1995. He and Susan enjoyed traveling together including spending several winters in Florida and Arizona. He enjoyed boating, biking and golfing with his family and friend.

Jim will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to his wife and children and an immeasurable strength to meet lifeís challenges.

A memorial mass to celebrate Jimís life will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Student Center, 1511 LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso, on Monday, July 28, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. Friends are invited to meet with the family directly at the church from 5:00 p.m. until time of mass. The family requests no flowers.
