Glenn Nicholson,
age 91 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 in New
Buffalo, Michigan.
He was born on
March 10, 1923 in Furnessville to Martin William and Delia Grieger
Nicholson, both of whom preceded him in death.
On May 2, 1948 at
the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton he married Lois Spitler
Nicholson who preceded him in death on July 4, 2014.
Surviving are his
children James A. (Prescott) Nicholson of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Diane
(Russell) Harper of Chesterton, Thomas (Vera) Nicholson of Chesterton and
William (Marilyn) Nicholson of Chesterton, grandchildren Mary Nicholson of
Chesterton, Neal Nicholson of Chesterton, Tanner Nicholson of St. Cloud,
Minn., Michael Sipich and Steven Sipich both of Indiana, sister Fern
Anderson of Chesterton and many nieces and nephews.
Glenn was also
preceded in death by his grandson Martin William Nicholson and his brother
Edwin Nicholson.
Glenn was a member
of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was a youth leader, taught adult
Sunday school and was a member of Luther League. He was a charter member and
Captain Pine Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Reserve Deputy
Sheriff for Porter County. While proudly serving his country in the United
States Navy he was a Torpedo Man First Class. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman. The Nicholson home was an “open home” for anyone, young and old,
who needed a comfortable, welcoming place to stay.
Funeral services
will be on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation prior
from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2050 W.
1100 N., Chesterton, with Pastor Erik Grayvold officiating. Burial will
follow at Furnessville Cemetery, Furnessville, Ind.
The family will
receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, at the White-Love
Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton.
