George Harvil dies at age 90

George Harvil of Tempe, Ariz., passed away on March 28, 2014, after a lengthy illness. George was born on January 8, 1924 in Chicago, Ill., to George and Marie Barth. At the age of three he and his twin brother were adopted by Carl and Louella Harvil of Chesterton, Indiana.

Survivors include his wife Shirley, daughters, Carolyn (Mrs. Dale) Lind of Chandler, Ariz.; Cindy Murphy of Maricopa, Ariz.; and Kim Archuleta of Chandler, Ariz.; son, Dave Harvil, also of Chandler.

He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and two nephews, Fred and Tim Harvil.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Wynona Kessler and one brother, Fred Harvil.

He grew up in the automobile business and owned his own Studebaker dealership.

In 1972 George, with his wife Shirley, moved their family to Arizona. There he became a silversmith and designed jewelry for several years. After retiring he worked part time at Wendy’s restaurant.

A Celebration of George’s life will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at Life Community Church, 415 N. Gilbert Rd., Gilbert, Ariz.

Arrangements are being handled by Tempe Mortuary, Tempe, Ariz.
