Emilie Massette memorial Saturday, January 4

Emilie Lamb Massette, 75, of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013.

She was born October 10, 1938 in Indianapolis, Ind., to Dr. Emmett and Margaret (Kluger) Lamb.

Survivors include her children Rev. Victoria (Joseph) Ubben of Valparaiso, Ind.. Samuel (Melinda Boothe) Massette of Porter, Ind., three sisters Suzanne (George) Holder of California, Judy (Clarence) Doninger of Indianapolis, Ind., Sarah Isaak of Greenwood, Ind., and two grandsons, Jeremiah and Isaiah Smith, both of Valparaiso, Ind.

She graduated from Tudor Hall School in 1956, received a B.A. in Education from Indiana University and her Masters from Purdue University. Emilie taught third, fourth and fifth grade classes at Yost Elementary School in Porter, Ind., most of her career with sabbatical teaching years in China and New Zealand. She was an active member of First Christian Church, D.O.C., in Valparaiso, sang in their choir and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Emilie satisfied her wanderlust by traveling throughout the world, which included scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, parasailing in Mexico and acquiring her pilotís license in 1994 at age 55.

A burial service was held on December 23, 2013, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.

A local memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 1507 Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso, Ind., on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. (CST).

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the General Operating Fund at First Christian Church D.O.C., 1507 E. Glendale Blvd., Valparaiso, IN, 46383.
