Edith Diness Thomas service Sunday

Former Chesterton resident Edith Diness Thomas passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014, in Portland, Ore.

For many years she operated the Diness Jewelers shop in downtown Chesterton.  

She was preceded in death by her husbands Albert Diness, who died in 1970, and Sheldon Thomas, who passed away in 1999, as well as her parents Walter J. and Esther B. Bloom; and siblings Jack Bloom, David Bloom and Charlene Katz.

She is survived by her children Wanda (Dick) Haneline, Madelynne (Michael) Sheehan, Vicki (David) Brostrom, Rand (Sue)Thomas, Bradd Thomas, Todd (Karen)Thomas, and Robert (Charisse) Thomas; and grandchildren Aliza, Aaron, April, Melissa, David, Daniel, Rachel, Esther, Benjamin, Sara, Steven, Faye and Ethan.

She is also survived by her sister Dorothy (Alvin) Vinegar, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

We were blessed to have gracious, beautiful Edith in our lives. May we honor her memory by continuing to love one another with all our hearts.

Graveside services will be held at Temple Israel Cemetery in Portage, Ind., on Sunday, May 18, at 11 a.m.

A gathering of friends and family will follow the service at the Paragon Restaurant, 1701 East 37th Ave., Hobart, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Edith’s name to Cedars Sinai Park, Portland, Oregon.
