Dr. William 'Bill' Gill service to be August 10

Dr. William F. “Bill” Gill, age 91 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away on Sunday June 23, 2013.

Bill was born January 15, 1922 in Indianapolis, Ind., the only child of John and Nellie Gill.

He is survived by his children, William David (Ellen) of Noblesville, Ind., Jane (Mike) Lahne of Valparaiso, Ind., and John (Dianne) Gill of Danville, Ind. He is also survived by his four grand girls, and his five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley (Thompson).

He attended George Washington High School and Lincoln Chiropractic College. His studies were interrupted by his enrollment in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He served as a Pharmacists Mate on an LST (Landing Ship Tank). His tour of duty included the Philippines. After the war he continued his Chiropractic studies and graduated from National Chiropractic College. He was also employed at Allison in Indianapolis.

Bill enjoyed anything related to water. He built a sailboat, a kayak, instructed his children in boating and water skiing, went on many boating adventures with his family, and on his 50th wedding anniversary completed a Scuba dive on the North Wall in Grand Cayman with his son John.

Bill was also an active member of Liberty Bible Church in Liberty Twp., 824 N. Calumet Ave., (Old Ind. 49, North of U.S. Hwy. 6).

His family will forever remember the many caregivers at Gabriel’s house who lovingly provided for Bill at the end of his life.

Memorials can be sent to Gabriel’s House, 372 Franciscan Drive, Valparaiso, IN, 46385.

The family will have a memorial service at Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., on August 10.
