Dolores A. King services Monday, February 17

Dolores Ann King, age 77, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away peacefully at the hospital Saturday, February 8, 2014. She was born April 18, 1936 in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph and Frances (Wojtunik) Rak.

On May 21, 1955 Dolores married William (Bill) Edwin King, who preceded her in death in 2007.

Surviving are two sons Lawrence A. King (Jane Dougherty), of Valparaiso, Ind., and Garry A. King (Kathy Mitchell) of Gary, Ind.

Dolores and Bill enjoyed 52 years of marriage with many friends and family members in and around the area.

Dolores graduated from Chesterton High School in 1953, known to her classmates as “Pretty Eyed Baby.” Dolores was entered into the Holy Family Academy; National Honor Society, 3, 4; Y-Teens 3, 4; Booster Club, 3, 4; Senior Girls Club; annual staff.

Dolores worked in the insurance business her entire career starting in the early days with daily commutes on the South Shore Train to Chicago, and retiring from Daly Insurance Services, Chesterton, at age 65. Dolores was a dedicated member of Sigma Alpha Sorority for 54 years serving all Officer Positions including Past President. Dolores loved to travel the United States, having collected her cherished necklace charms from countless cities during national annual Sorority conventions. She also enjoyed various international trips, including the wedding of her son, Lawrence (Jane), together with Bill in Barbados on their 40th wedding anniversary. She also enjoyed a trip to Rome; a cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary throughout the Caribbean; a visit to London; and a South African journey and safari.

A Celebration of Dolores’ Life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sigma Alpha Sorority or to the Visiting Nurses Association.
