David Sparks services Friday

David L. Sparks, age 69, of Chesterton, Ind., passed away December 29, 2013 at 5:10 p.m. in Franciscan St. Anthony Health, Michigan City, Ind.

He was born November 23, 1944, in LaPorte, Ind., to the late Arvis and Catherine (Lucas) Sparks.

Surviving are his wife, Pat Sparks of Chesterton, Ind.; son, Doug Sparks of St. Petersburg, Fla.; daughter, Christina (Tim Chambers) Sparks of Michigan City; step-daughter, Tracey Gerhardt; step-son, Robert Gerhardt; grandchildren, Tim, Hannah, Brandon and Amanda; step-grandchildren, Jim, Julia, Jake, Josh, Troy, Carleigh and Riley; two brothers, Richard (Nancy) Sparks of Eau Claire, Wis., and Ronald (Cindi) Sparks of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

He was a 1963 graduate of Elston High School, a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam and a member of the John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37 and the V.F.W. 2536. Dave was employed at Arcelor Mital Steel for 46 years. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Ind., with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Cremation will follow services and ashes will be interred privately.

The John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37 will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and 11:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.
