David Gordon White services Monday

David Gordon White, age 52 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Monday, September 2, 2013 at Porter Regional Hospital, Liberty Twp.

He was born on January 15, 1961, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, to Wallace and Christine Crawford White, both of whom preceded him in death.

On September 24, 1983, in Chesterton, Ind., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, he married Sherry Ranegar White who survives in Valparaiso, Ind.

Also surviving are his children Collin (Elaine) White of Valparaiso, Casey (Lindsey) White of Valparaiso and Breanna White of Valparaiso, grandchildren Aaron, Joseph and Lillian, of Valparaiso and his caregiver and good friend, Arnel. David is also survived by his siblings Charlie (Kathy) White of Harrodsburg, Ky., Maryjo Lawson of Burgin, Ky., and Margaret (Randy) Grider of Burgin, Ky. Also surviving are his mother-in-law Elaine Ranegar of Chesterton and stepmother-in-law Rose Ranegar of Mesa, Ariz.

David is also preceded in death by his father-in-law Arnold Ranegar.

David enjoyed music, especially playing guitar. He was a volunteer firefighter for Porter Fire Department, serving as Lieutenant, also volunteering for Liberty Fire Department. In his spare time, he loved to fish and camp and was a member of the Moose Lodge 1623. He was very much a family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He loved getting his hands dirty, his name was fitting as “Mr. Fix-It.”

David was a volunteer at heart and his mission in life was to help someone.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 6540 Central Ave., Portage, Ind., with Reverend Fredrick Hoover officiating. Cremation will follow.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 8, 2013, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd Street, Chesterton, Ind. There will be an IVFA service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. the night of the visitation.

Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to the Duneland Resale Shop, 801 Broadway, Chesterton, IN, 46304.
