Back To Front Page

Daryl P. Walker (Pokey to his family and friends) went to be with his Lord on December 18, 2014.  He was born on January 21, 1932 in Templeton, PA to Edward A. and Hazel M. (Farster) Walker.

In 1961 he and family moved to Chesterton, IN., where he worked at Midwest Steel, retiring in 1993.  He enjoyed life, especially the outdoors. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening, growing his special prized tomatoes.  He loved telling his stories to anyone would listen; and amazingly, the stories were true.  One of his favorite things was watching the sunsets at the Dunes State Park with his wife of 61 years.

Daryl was a life-long member of Templeton, PA Methodist Church, as well as a member of Pinecrest Sportsman Club.  He enjoyed baseball and even played third base for the U.S. Army team from 1952-1954 in Japan.

Daryl served his God, his country and his family.  His legacy lives on in those who knew him.  He was one of the Good Guys and our hero.

He is survived by his wife, Lois (Atherton) Walker; one son, Dr. Steven and wife Carol of Jackson Township; his granddaughter, Shawna and husband Michael Hallinan  of Alexandria, VA and grandsons: Christopher and wife Jennifer of Jackson Township, Cameron of Jackson Township and Seth of Chesterton.  His great-granddaughters: Hailey and Destani, as well as his brothers: Leroy and wife Peggy of Templeton, PA, Grover (Bo) of Kittanning, PA and his sister, Vivian Wyant of Kittanning, PA are also surviving.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2014 from 2 until 8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton.

The funeral will be held at Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, PA at a later next week.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Templeton United Methodist Church, PO Box 177, Templeton, PA 16259 or to the Cochran Cemetery Association, Box 172 C/O Etta Fox, Templeton, PA 16259.
