Burton L. Cleaveland, Sr., age 94 of Chesterton, Ind., passed away on
Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Porter Regional Hospital in Liberty Twp.
He was born November 4, 1919, in Lewiston, Maine, to Lowell H. and Hazel
Bennett Cleaveland, both of whom preceded him in death.
On October 4, 1941, in Emporium, Penn., he married Marie Peasley Cleaveland,
who survives in Chesterton.
Also surviving are his children Beverly Cecil of Grape Vine, Texas; Burton
L. Cleaveland Jr. of Chesterton; Carol (Dale) Henderson of Bradenton, Fla.,
and Amy Shlemon of Chesterton, nine grandchildren and 12
great-grandchildren. His siblings Bessie (Rex) Hartford of Casper, Wyoming
and Roland Cleaveland of Bradenton, Fla., are also surviving.
Burt was preceded in death by his siblings Agnes Parker, Floyd Cleaveland,
Kenneth Cleaveland, Sherwood Cleaveland, George Cleaveland and Hazel Wertz.
Burt was a member of Liberty Bible Church. He was a Chief Manufacturing
Engineer, employed by Sylvania Electric in Pennsylvania, General Electric in
Kentucky, Indiana General and Landgrave in Chesterton, Ind.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014,
from the Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet, Chesterton, with Pastor
Darrell Crots officiating.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 until time of service at Liberty
Bible Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be preferred to the Missionary Outreach
at Liberty Bible Church.
