Anna Dougherty service Friday

Anna T. Dougherty, age 97, passed away August 9, 2013 in Chesterton, Ind.

She was born on March 5, 1916, to James and Anna (McNulty) Dougherty in Gary, Ind.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Richard (Helen) Dougherty; her sister, Mary (Louis) Deiotte; and her sister, Rita (Phillip) Skager.

She is survived and will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and all who knew her.

Ann served many people early in her life as Sister Celena of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. She obtained a Bachelorís Degree in Music from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Ill., in 1954. In 1962, Ann went on to earn a Masters of Music Education from the University of Notre Dame. Ann brought the joy and comfort of music to many people throughout her life. She later became a nurse, continuing her lifelong service to people in need.

Ann loved baseball, particularly, the Chicago Cubs. The City of New Orleans always held a special place in her heart. She continued to play music until her death, bringing comfort and peace to herself, as well as others.

A funeral mass celebrating Annís life will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, on Friday, August 16, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. Friends and family are all welcome.
