Alice Irene Behrendt service Saturday

Alice Irene (Becker) Behrendt, age 91, of Michigan City, Ind., passed away on April 14, 2013, at St. Anthony Hospice in Michigan City, Ind.

Alice was born August 8, 1921 in Logansport, Ind., to Henry C. and Lola Clara (Bardonner) Becker, both of whom preceded her in death.

On June 10, 1951 in Logansport, Ind., Alice married Harlan Roy Behrendt, who preceded her in death in 2001.

Alice is survived by her children Kenneth Behrendt and Jan Behrendt, both of Michigan City, Ind., and Mark (Julie) Behrendt of Chesterton, Ind.; six grandsons, Jon, Matt, Andrew, J.J., Tristan and Chase; three granddaughters, Megan, Katie and Paige; great-grandchildren Lynn, Josie, Rhea, and Lucas; sister-in-law Sara Becker of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her daughter Lynn Collins; brother Ralph Becker, infant brother Christopher Becker and sister Doris Prosch.

Alice was a graduate of Valparaiso and Purdue Universities. She began her teaching career in Chesterton and was an elementary school counselor for the Michigan City Area Schools where she was honored as a Wall of Fame Educator. Alice was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Michigan City, Ind., and a longtime board member for Lutheran Family Services. She volunteered at Franciscan St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City and was active in Tri Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma sororities.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1237 E. Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, Ind., with Reverend Matthew Becker and Reverend David Albertin officiating. Burial will take place at McCool Cemetery, at 2700 McCool Rd., in Portage, Ind.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, April 19, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, Ind., and Saturday, April 20, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1237 E. Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, IN, 46360.
