Shirley A. (Kerr) Miller, 76, of Alexandria, Ind., the wife of a Chesterton
resident, died on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at the St. Vincent Seton
Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born March 23, 1936, in Anderson, Ind., the daughter of Charles and
Virginia (Nevils) Kerr, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Miller of Chesterton; three
daughters, Virginia Callender of Alexandria, Kimberly Sue Miller of Alaska,
and Tiffany Miller of Chesterfield; a son, Joseph Miller of Alexandria;
three grandchildren, Ethan Callender, Kelsey Miller, and Andrew Miller; two
sisters, Sue (Marvin) Davis and Debbie (Bob) Downey; and several nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Garner.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Alexandria High School, attended Ball State
University, and graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in
social work. She worked for the Center for Mental Health in Anderson for 10
years. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of
Alexandria and was currently attending the Epworth United Methodist Church
in rural Alexandria. She was devoted to the care and nurture of her family.

Funeral services, Dr. Joyce Thorton officiating, are scheduled for 10 a.m.
Monday, Aug. 27, at the Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St. in
Alexandria. Interment will be at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Noffze.
