Services Friday for Thomas Paul Nellessen

Thomas Paul Nellessen, age 67 of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 in Valparaiso, Indiana.

He was born February 5, 1945 in Gary, Ind., to George E. and Emma (Groth) Nellessen.

Thomas is survived by his mother, Emma Nellessen; son, Adam Thomas Nellessen of LaPorte, Ind.; and daughter, Machelle Blount of Ogden Dunes, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Nellessen; and grandparents, James H. and Martha Brown Guthrie, George Henry and Cecelia Nellessen.

Thomas was an owner of Shoreline Real Estate, The Dog House, Country Café and Coach Lite Inn. He was also previously employed at Inland Steel, Bethlehem Steel and the Westville Correctional Center. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Saigon and Vietnam. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, Porter VFW Post 2511 and the Chesterton American Legion Post 94. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting pool and playing poker.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., with Father James Meade officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place at Heritage Crematory, Portage, Ind.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice, 2404 Valparaiso St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
