Phyllis Shaw, age 71 of Chesterton, passed away August 13, 2012. She was
born March 31, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Robert and Lula (Higginbotham)
Jeffers.
On September 24,
1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she married Gary D. Shaw.
Phyllis is
survived by her daughters, Gina (Robby) Watson of Westville, Ind., and Lisa
(Bruce) Stemler of Porter, Ind.; her beloved partner in crime, Richard
Dailey; brothers, David (Sue) Jeffers of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marvin (Edith)
Jeffers of Macon, Ga., and Sherman (JoAnn) Jeffers of Roanoke, Va.; sisters,
Pat (Frank) Lake of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Donna (Fred) Retzler of
Cincinnati, Ohio; brothers in law, David (Shannon) Shaw and Greg Shaw;
sister in law, Brenda (Bob) Lee; grandchildren, Savannah Watson, Samuel and
Natalie Stemler and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by her parents Robert and Lula, husband Gary Shaw, brother Paul
Jeffers, sisters, Wanda Spears and Jean Muncy and sister-in-law Sandra
Lamping.
Phyllis was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, and was an area resident since
1972. She retired in 2007, having served for 28 years as a bus driver for
the Duneland School System. Phyllis enjoyed country line-dancing, and led an
active life after retirement. She loved holidays and spending time with her
family. She could be frequently found attending and supporting her
grandchildren’s many activities. She cherished the time spent gathering with
her brothers and sisters. Phyllis loved people and life. Family was her
priority. She was the wind beneath their wings, and she will be greatly
missed.
Funeral services
for Phyllis will be held Friday, August 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Edmonds &
Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind., 46304, with burial at
Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will
be held Thursday, August 16, 2012 from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the
funeral home.
