Mildred H. Pranske, age 85, of Chesterton, formerly of Calumet City, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2012.

Mildred was born August 22, 1926 in Hammond, Ind., to Joseph and Agnes (Massoth) Spannan.

Mildred married Leonard R. Pranske on May 5, 1951 in Calumet City, Ill.

Leonard preceded her in death November 18, 2000.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine (Albert) Krause of Chesterton and Jane Pranske of Chesterton; brother, Gerald (Charlene) Spannan of Wheatfield, Ind.; sister, Laverda Houchin of Redlands, Calif.; grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Neevel of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and Scott (Natalie) Krause, of South Bend, Ind.; great-granddaughter, Alejandra and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mildred was a homemaker and had worked for Edward C. Minas Company in River Oaks for many years. While living in Illinois, Mildred was a member of St. Victors Catholic Church, where she taught CCD for over 20 years and was a Lector, Sacristan and Eucharistic Minister. She became a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church after moving to Chesterton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, with Father James Meade officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 4, from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to the VNA Hospice Center of Porter County or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
