Michael E. Strycker, age 59 of Valparaiso, Ind., passed away Saturday
November 17, 2012 at Northwestern Hospital, Chicago.
He was born January 16, 1953 in South Bend to E. Philip Strycker, who
survives in LaPorte, Ind., and Patricia “Pat” Landen Strycker, who preceded
him in death.
He is also survived by his daughter, Erin St. George, of Valparaiso,
granddaughter Emma Sue St. George, of Valparaiso, brother, Steven (Laurie)
Strycker, and sisters Gayle (Larry) Curtis and Sheri (Bob) Schuster, all of
LaPorte, Ind.
Also surviving are nephews Matt (Angie) Curtis and Andrew Curtis, nieces
Bethany and Hannah Schuster, brothers-in-law Jim (Linda) Green of Porter and
John Green of New York, as well as sisters-in-law Carol (Matt) Foldenauer of
Michigan City, Ind., and Vicki (John) Hexamer of North Augusta, S.Car.
Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Strycker, in 2001.
Mike graduated from LaPorte High School in 1971 Indiana Central in 1975 and
earned his Master’s Degree from Ball State University in 1976. He was a
member of Porter United Methodist Church and was employed by the Porter
County Educational Services working through the Duneland School System as a
school psychologist. He was a member of the Youth for Understanding foreign
exchange program and hosted over 30 children. He was also a Director at the
Royal Family Kids Camp. He loved to travel, shop and cook.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11 a.m., at the
First United Methodist Church of Chesterton, 434 South 2nd St., with Pastor
G. Thomas Jones and Pastor Mike Cover officiating. Burial will be in the
Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 from 4:00-8:00
p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton. There
will also be visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the church,
prior to the service.
