Loisdene T. Smith, age 84 of Foley, Alabama, formerly of Chesterton, Ind.,
passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at her home.
She was born
January 23, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clyde J. and Minnie Lee Utterback
Towery, both of whom preceded her in death.
On September 23,
1952, in Hagerstown, Maryland, she married her childhood friend William C.
Smith, who survives in Foley, Alabama.
Lois is also
survived by her sons Randall C. (Susan) Smith of Valparaiso, Ind., Ralph D.
(Cheryl) Smith, of Jamestown, New York, Owen V. (Vicki) Smith of Chesterton,
daughter-in-law Sally Snyder of Kittanning, Pennsylvania, her grandchildren
Kerri, Ryan, Matthew, Charles, Clayton, Allison and Cameron, and six
great-grandchildren.
Along with her
parents Lois was preceded in death by her son Richard L. Smith, grandson
Jimmy Smith and brother Clyde D. Towery.
She worked for
Faircraft Engineering and Manley Brothers as a secretary. Lois was secretary
to the Superintendent of the Locks Division in the Panama Canal Zone. She
grew up in Panama where she met her childhood friend and future husband.
Graveside
services will be at the Chesterton Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be
given in Lois’ name to her family, they will determine the organization at a
later date.
