Lewis Holman Whitehead service Tuesday

Cdr. Lewis Holman Whitehead USNR (Ret.), age 87, of Beverly Shores, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Suzanne (nee Flynn) Whitehead; his children Lewis C. (Susan) Whitehead, Jessica H. MacPhail, Martha G. (Aris) Ouksel; grandchildren, Heather and Emily Whitehead, Colin, Sean, Molly, and Kevin MacPhail, C. Lewis, G. Masin, and Lilya Ouksel; three great-grandchildren, beloved family member Roberta Polfus, and beloved nieces, nephews and godchildren from the families of Teresa Ann F. Garnier, William J. Flynn III, Mary Lou F. Casey, David M. Flynn, Joan F. Graeber, Barbara F. Green, Kathleen F. Mathis and Jerome T. Flynn.

Lewis was preceded in death by his father and mother Lewis M. and Betty (nee Holman) Whitehead.

Lewis was the 8th Lewis Whitehead, all being first born sons. Cdr. Lewis served his country as a Navy Pilot in the Pacific Theater during WWII, where he flew sea planes and PTV’s. He received his degree from Drake University. He was self-employed in Marketing Research, and previously worked for Market Facts and Eldrick and Lavidge. Lewis volunteered with RSVP/SHIP, and belonged to Delta Sigma Pi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd., Chesterton, Ind., 46304 with Father James Meade officiating.

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 directly at the Church beginning at Noon until the time of Mass.

The family requests that memorials be given to: American Printing House for the Blind, 1839 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY, 40206; St. Patrick Church in Chesterton; or Arnsdory Research Day c/o University of Chicago, 1170 E. 58th St., Chicago, IL, 60637.
