Laurie Jane Schlueter, age 53, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the
VNA Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso, after a courageous three and a half
year battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on August 14, 1958, in Gary, to Edwin J. and Eleanor (Fedor)
Wilczynski.
On October 14, 1978 in Griffith, Ind., Laurie married Jon Schlueter, who
survives.
Also surviving are her mother and step father, Eleanor and Arnold Filis of
Westville, Ind.; three sons, Andrew, Noah, and Devin all of Valparaiso;
sister, Leslie (Rich) Kokesh of Chesterton; brother, Edwin D. Wilczynski;
sisters-in-law, Joellen (Dave) Felix, Janet Salinas, Joy (Rich) Philip, Jane
(Bob) Kuva, Jill (Art) Schlueter-Kim, and Jodi (Brian) Aurand; Godchildren,
Ryan and Kevin Kokesh, Anna Philip, and Willa Kim; 20 nieces and nephews;
many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her loving dog and companion, Barley.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Wilczynski; father and
mother-in-law, Carl and Joan Schlueter; and brother-in-law, Santos Salinas,
Jr.
Laurie worked for the family business, J and L Pool Service as a partner
with her husband, Jon, and was a substitute teacher for Union Twp. Schools.
She was very involved with her children in their scholastic, athletic, and
extracurricular activities throughout their school years at Union Twp.
Schools. She enjoyed gardening, her koi pond, reading, and cooking, but most
importantly she loved her family.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at St.
Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 509 W. Division Rd., Valparaiso, with
Fr. Doug Mayer officiating. Cremation will take place at Angelcrest
Crematory, Valparaiso.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104
Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, and Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until
the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the
