Joseph D. McAllister 75 of Chesterton, formerly of Hammond, Ind., passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, Ind.

He was born July 30, 1937 in Chicago, Ill., to Joseph and Fern Gillette McAllister, both of whom preceded him in death.

Joe is survived by his sons David (Sandy) McAllister of Hammond, Ind., Randall (Renee) McAllister of Chesterton and Joe (Meg) McAllister of Portage, Ind.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Daniel, Sara, Ryan, Amber, Erin and Megan, and his sister Bernice Schultz of Hazel Crest, Ill.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Judith on December 4, 2011, six sisters, one brother and a grandson.

Joe worked at Wisconsin Steel for over 25 years in the coke plant and he was also on the safety committee there and worked at Union Tank Car for over 15 years. Joe was an artist, using his talents painting and drawing.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 South 2nd St., Chesterton, with a funeral service following at 8:00 p.m.
