Gerald “Jerry” Raymond Frech, 70, of Portage, the brother of a Chesterton
resident, died Monday, June 18, 2012, in Chesterton.
He was born Sept. 23, 1941, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Louis J. and
Ellen G. (Brady) Frech, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother, Louis (Ann) Frech of Chesterton; a sister,
Margaret (Ronald) Irwin of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; and numerous nieces
and nephews in the U.S. and Canada.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack (John) Frech.
Jerry formerly worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources of Ontario and
also at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, retiring after 35 years of service. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
As a boy in the “Soo” Jerry enjoyed many hours camping and fishing and
vacation were spent with his family in Sault Ste. Marie where he and his
father shared their love of fishing. In his younger years, Jerry golfed,
played hockey, and fished the docks in Burns Harbor. In retirement, he kept
in touch with friends in his coffee group, his church, and visiting.
There will be no services. Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory
in Portage, with burial of ashes at a later date at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery,
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
