Gary Irvin Bennett, age 65, of Morocco, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his home. He was born in Rensselaer on February 11, 1947, son of Bernice (Swartz Bennett) Cox and the late LaVerne I. Bennett. He graduated from Morocco High School with the Class of 1965. Gary spent his life in Morocco and Lake County. He was a union carpenter and was a member of Carpenter’s Local Union #599. He also had previously been the self-proprietor of Bennett Builders and built homes in Lake County for several years.

Gary is survived by three children, Laura Owens (husband: Fred) of Chesterton, Deborah Lewandowski (husband: Adam) of Chesterton, and Jeffrey K. Bennett of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Fred & Max Owens and Ryan & Cade Lewandowski; his mother, Bernice Cox (husband: Howard) of Morocco; and a brother, Robert Bennett (wife: Debbie) of Brook. He was preceded in death by: his father, a brother, Ronnie, and a sister, Connie.

Friends may call on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon CDT at Steinke Funeral Home Brunton Chapel of Morocco, Rev. Greg Waggoner officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
