Danny H. Norris, age 65, of Porter, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012
while doing one of his favorite activities, running.
Danny was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Nadine and Curtis Norris, both of
whom preceded him in death.
Danny leaves behind his wife and best friend, Cheryl, of Porter, Ind.;
brother and close friend, Randy (Marsha) of Highland, Ind.; brother, James
(Jeanie) Thrift of Dacula, Georgia; sister-in-law, Darlene (John) Kuchaes;
brother-in-law, Alex Feshanko of Ft. Myers, Florida; numerous aunts and
uncles, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and acquaintances,
as well as best friends and kitties, Otis, Buster and Smuckers.
He was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Steve (Martha)
Danny graduated from Highland High School. He worked as a Welder for LTV
Steel, retiring after 33 years of service. He later worked part time for the
National Park Service before fully retiring.
Danny was proud to have been a Sergeant in the Marine Corps during the
Vietnam Conflict. He kept in contact with his Marine brothers through the
years, visiting periodically. He could often be heard acknowledging other
Marines with “Semper Fi.”
Danny had been an avid runner for over 30 years. He was quite a competitor
in his earlier years and continued to run “for the love of running.” He was
a member of the Calumet Region Striders. Danny was also an avid hang glider
for over 30 years, and was a member of the U.S. Hang Gliders Assoc.
The family would like to thank Ed and Diane Burns, dear friends, who were
with Danny when he took his last run, and all the other runners and Natural
Resources person who helped. The family is eternally grateful.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, Ind.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. Cremation will be performed by Heritage Crematory, Portage,
