Alyssa Marie Benson dies at age 10

Alyssa Marie Benson, age 10 of Chesterton, passed away Friday, June 1, 2012 at Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis.

She was born on June 16, 2001, in Valparaiso, Ind., the daughter of Kevin and Angela Marie (Homan) Benson.

Alyssa was a third grade student at Bailly Elementary, Chesterton.

Being hearing impaired, Alyssa was very involved with hearing impaired learning and specialists, she was a member of the Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Club in Chesterton, and loved to dance. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Alyssa is survived by her mother, Angela Benson; father, Kevin Benson; step-parents, Jody Miller, Hank Gentry, Sr., and Kathleen Ducat; three brothers, Zackary and Payton Benson, and Henry Gentry, Jr.; three sisters, Shelby Keith, Sydney Miller, and Kendra Benson; grandparents, Robin and Joyce Woodworth, George (Carla) Benson, Kathy (Gerry) Vieitez, and John and Judy Gentry; great-grandmother, Patricia Benson; and several loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Robert Dale Homan.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, Ind., with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m.
